Finding Style in Simplicity: Life, Moving, and a Return to the Classics

Life lately has been anything but glamorous. Between endless coffee runs, countless boxes, and the chaos of moving into our first home together, I’ve been living in a world of to-do lists and logistics. It’s exciting, of course—this new chapter feels full of possibility—but it has also required a certain surrender to simplicity. In a season where so much is changing, I’ve found comfort in keeping other things easy, especially when it comes to my personal style.

I used to think transition meant reinvention—new spaces, new clothes, new routines—but this move has reminded me that sometimes the best approach is to lean into the basics. With half of my wardrobe still packed away, I’ve been reaching for the timeless staples that remain within arm’s reach: crisp button-downs, slim jeans, versatile accessories, and one classic handbag that seems to tie it all together.

Button-Downs: The Unsung Hero

If you’ve seen me out and about lately, there’s a good chance I was wearing a button-down shirt. It’s not glamorous, but it’s practical—and more importantly, it just works. Whether it’s my favorite oversized version I’ve worn for years, or one of my fiancé’s linen shirts borrowed straight from his closet, button-downs have become the MVP of my wardrobe during this move.

They strike the rare balance between comfort and polish. Oversized, they double as swimsuit cover-ups on days when I need a quick reset. Tucked into slim jeans, they instantly read “put together” without requiring much effort. And in classic shades—white, pale blue, or soft stripes—they never feel dated.

The pandemic years taught me a lot about the value of easy dressing, and button-downs were my best discovery from that period. They’re adaptable, clean, and endlessly wearable. I’ve even started buying them in multiple sizes and colors, because I know they’ll never go out of style.

Accessories That Last

As my style has matured, I’ve noticed a shift in the way I shop. I no longer chase trends or impulse buys; instead, I gravitate toward timeless, versatile pieces that can handle the ebb and flow of my life. My closet is becoming more curated, more edited, and more reflective of the woman I am now rather than the woman I thought I should be.

One of my latest additions is the Brahmin Mod Lorelei Melbourne in Savino—a petite shoulder bag that has been my saving grace these past few weeks. I’ve always admired Brahmin’s ability to create bags that feel both luxurious and practical, and this one is no exception. The Mod Lorelei is compact enough to feel lightweight, but still roomy enough to hold all the essentials: phone, lip gloss, mask, keys, and even a few extras tucked into the interior pocket.

What I love most, though, is its versatility. The warm neutral tone fits seamlessly into my wardrobe, whether I’m pairing it with an oversized shirt and jeans for errands or dressing it up for dinner out. It’s stylish without being fussy, functional without being utilitarian. And at under $200, it proves that luxury doesn’t always mean unattainable.

Learning to Live With Less (and Love It)

Moving has a way of forcing you to edit—not just your home, but your habits. With so much of my wardrobe packed away, I’ve been reminded of how little I actually need to feel good in what I’m wearing. A few well-loved shirts, a great pair of jeans, and a reliable handbag have carried me through weeks of transition. And truthfully? It feels freeing.

There’s something refreshing about opening a closet that isn’t overflowing with options and instead finding a handful of pieces you truly love. It simplifies the decision-making process, but it also sharpens your sense of style. When you focus on timeless pieces, you end up with a wardrobe that works harder and lasts longer.

Moving Forward

As we settle into our first home together, I know my wardrobe will eventually expand again, and the boxes will find their way back into the closet. But I don’t think I’ll ever forget this lesson in simplicity. Sometimes, the best outfits aren’t the most elaborate—they’re the ones that make you feel confident, comfortable, and ready to take on the day, even if the day includes little more than unpacking boxes and juggling coffee cups.

For me, that means a rotation of oversized button-downs, slim jeans, and my Brahmin Mod Lorelei bag. Pieces that don’t try too hard but always feel just right.

And maybe that’s the beauty of this season—amid all the change and chaos, I’ve found a deeper appreciation for the classics. They remind me that style doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful. Sometimes, it’s as simple as a shirt you’ve worn a hundred times and a handbag that makes every outfit feel complete.
